Primary Five Classwork

 Maths

This term the children will be learning to:
• Continuing to divide and multiply using the written method and then applying this to solving word problems.
• Tell the time both on both an analogue and digital clock.
• Weigh and record the mass of objects using kilograms and grams.
• Draw and label both bar charts and line graphs
• Recognise and describe right angles in relation to turns e.g. one right angle = a quarter turn.

English

The focus in our writing will be non-fiction, and the children will be learning to write in a persuasive style.  We will do this through creating a healthy eating poster including slogans and by writing an argument either for or against the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest.
We will be looking at using exciting verbs and adverbs.
We will learn how to write simple rhyming poems.

Topic

Our topic is Amazon Rainforest. 
The children will be learning about continents and were tropical rainforests are located in the world.   
We will compare the climate in the Amazon to our own.
We will study the layers and inhabitants of the rainforest.
We will also look at the effects of deforestation.
In science we will be classifying animals.
In PDMU  we will be looking at personal health and safety.

ICT
In ICT we will learn how to use a simple programming software called Blackcat Logo.
