Numeracy
We are learning to:
• Count forwards from 1 and from different starting points
• Count backwards from 5 and then 10
• Recognise and match numbers to 5
• Order sets of up to 5 objects
• Make a variety of sets for numbers (5/6)
• Estimate a small number of objects
• Compare sets by looking, matching objects and by counting
• Understand and use the terms ‘more’, ‘less’, ‘the same’
• Begin to make number stories
• Sort and re-sort objects/pictures in different ways
• Talk about shapes in the environment – rectangle
• Talk about and use programmable toys – bee-bot
• Talk about and sequence familiar events

Literacy
We are learning to:
• Read simple books and recognise some key words, such as ‘a’, ‘and’ etc.
• Recognise initial letter sounds (c,k,e,d,h,r,m) and begin to form correctly
• Write a short sentence
• Become aware of capital letter, full stop etc.
• Make our own book, ‘My Snowman’
• Understand and use some language associated with books, such as ‘spine’, ‘author’ etc
• Make predictions about stories – What happens next? How will it end?
• Sequence simple instructions
• Listen and respond to stories, poems, music etc
